GoodTalk Say It Right the First Time!
Privacy

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how GoodTalk collects, uses, stores, and discloses information in connection with the GoodTalk website, iPhone app, and related support and subscription services.

GoodTalk may also process account details, messages, profile settings, optional discovery data, and support communications to operate the service. Certain features rely on third-party services for authentication, real-time messaging, push notifications, subscriptions, and storage. AI features use OpenAI for server-side AI processing only after you allow AI data sharing in the app. GoodTalk does not show ads and is not an advertising-based service. It does measure which of its own ad campaigns lead to app installs, using the limited data described below and never your messages.

Information collected

Categories of information we may collect and use.

Account and profile

GoodTalk may collect and use information such as your name, username, avatar, linked sign-in providers, and account identifiers to create and maintain your account and profile.

Messages and message metadata

Messages, drafts, timestamps, visibility state, and related metadata may be processed to deliver chats, show message status, keep Talks organized, and support conversation history.

Phone verification and discovery

If you verify a phone number or enable phone-based discovery, GoodTalk may process that information to support account verification and user discovery, subject to the settings applied by you and other users.

Contacts access

If you grant contacts access, GoodTalk may process contact information to help identify which people in your contacts are already using the service. The service is designed to support privacy-aware matching rather than exposing raw contact lists in the product interface.

Use of information

How information may be used to provide the service.

AI processing for Private Coach and Aria

When you first try Private Coach or invite Aria into a shared Talk, GoodTalk asks for your permission before sending personal data to OpenAI for AI processing. If you allow AI data sharing, GoodTalk may send OpenAI the message draft or AI request you ask it to process, eligible existing and future conversation messages authored by users who have allowed AI data sharing, AI-generated conversation summaries derived only from eligible messages, display names and tone/profile details for users who have also allowed AI data sharing, selected AI settings, and optional context used to provide Private Coach or Aria responses.

Your partner's message text, display name, tone profile, or any summary derived from that partner's messages is not sent to OpenAI unless that partner has also allowed AI data sharing. If one conversation participant allows AI data sharing and the other does not, GoodTalk sends only the allowing participant's own content and AI summaries scoped to allowing participants. Normal messaging remains available if you do not allow AI data sharing. GoodTalk does not sell AI data, use it for advertising, build marketing profiles from it, share it with data brokers, or opt in to have OpenAI train models on it.

Notifications and device tokens

If you enable notifications, GoodTalk may use push-notification permission status and device token information to deliver message alerts and related notification features.

Subscriptions and Premium

GoodTalk uses App Store subscription information to manage Premium access, restore purchases, and determine free versus Premium feature availability.

Advertising measurement

GoodTalk advertises the app on other platforms. To understand which campaigns lead people to install it, the app uses Adjust, a mobile measurement provider. Adjust receives device and app identifiers, app install and open events, and selected in-app milestone events such as sign-up completion, first message, trial activity, partner invitation or connection, and subscription activity. If you buy a subscription, Adjust may also receive the product identifier, price, currency, and transaction identifier. Adjust does not receive your messages, drafts, AI requests, name, username, phone number, email address, or contacts.

The app asks, through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, whether GoodTalk may use your device's advertising identifier for this measurement. If you decline, measurement continues only in the limited, aggregated form Apple provides and no advertising identifier is used. You can change this choice at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, then Tracking.

Service providers

Third-party providers that help operate GoodTalk.

Authentication providers

GoodTalk supports sign-in through phone, Apple, and Google, depending on the sign-in method selected by the user.

Messaging and storage infrastructure

The app uses cloud infrastructure for authentication, messaging, storage, real-time synchronization, subscriptions, and notification-related functions.

Server-side AI providers

AI-enabled features use OpenAI to process supported requests and return responses for Private Coach, emotionally aware drafting or translation, and Aria mediation after the user allows AI data sharing in the app.

App-level settings and preferences

GoodTalk stores local preferences such as selected defaults and presentation choices so the app can remember user settings and preferred behavior.

Advertising measurement

GoodTalk uses Adjust to measure which of its own advertising campaigns lead to app installs and selected in-app milestones. GoodTalk does not send message content or account contact details to Adjust for this purpose.
